How much have you researched about cancer-causing foods? You probably do not wonder every day if the foods you eat contain carcinogens. But knowing that 1.5 million people are diagnosed with some type of cancer every year, maybe it’s time to look at what in our foods could be the cause of so many new cancers.

According to a study published in the medical journal The Lancet Oncology, cancer cases are expected to increase by 75% by 2030. And it has been reported by the American Cancer Society that the chances of getting cancer are now 1 in 2 for men, and 1 in 3 for women.

While cancers such as those of the cervix, liver or stomach should generally decrease, cancers of the colon, rectum, breast, and prostate should multiply. Here is a list of 10 cancer-causing foods that you most likely eat every day and that may contain carcinogens or are suspected of causing cancer.

Here are 10 cancer-causing foods to avoid:

These foods are likely in your everyday diet and you didn’t even realize it…

1. Hydrogenated Oils

It is found mainly in industrial products, used to preserve certain products.

In order for the oil used in food products to be less liquid, industries convert it into hydrogenated oil via hydrogenation. The hydrogenation then makes it possible to preserve the oil and to maintain it stable. The disadvantage is that at the time of this process, saturated fatty acids are added to the oil, causing an increase in the level of bad cholesterol in the blood; which will eventually cause cardiovascular diseases.

Hydrogenated fats are mainly found in sweet and savory biscuits, ready meals (including pizzas, quiches …), chocolate bars, pastries, sandwich bread, margarine… It is better to limit the consumption of these industrial products and to cook for yourself as much as possible.

2. Farmed Salmon

Recommended by doctors and nutritionists, fish, in general, is one of the symbols of a healthy diet.

But the farmed version of this fish is often full of cancer-causing contaminants like antibiotics and pesticides, mercury and PCB pollution. And the most dangerous for our health: farmed salmon.

It is not only lacking in vitamin D, but it is also particularly contaminated by carcinogenic chemicals, PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls), flame retardants, pesticides, and antibiotics.

3. Microwave Popcorn

Recent studies by the FDA have revealed that popcorn bought in supermarkets and cooked in the microwave would be carcinogenic!
First, the bag itself is made from perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), a toxin that can also be found in Teflon. After being warmed up, this chemical compound is known to cause infertility problems as well as cancers.

In addition, although not all manufacturers use the same ingredients, most use soybean oil (which is often made from GMOs), as well as large numbers of preservatives such as propyl gallate, a chemical that can cause significant stomach problems as well as skin problems.

Finally, the popcorn itself contains a chemical called diacetyl, known to cause lung cancer in employees of popcorn plants.

4. Processed Meats

Deli meats are processed meats and are essentially obtained from the processes of salting and smoking which allow us to better preserve the meat.

Today, it is a food classified as potentially carcinogenic by the World Health Organization because of its high content of nitrates, especially in individuals who make a big consumption. Reducing the consumption of sausages would reduce the risk of colorectal cancer.

The high amount of salt and saturated fats in deli meats are also responsible for cardiovascular disease and high blood pressure.

5. Red Meat

For those of you who love their steaks, do not worry! There are many facts to show that it’s a good thing that red meat is part of your diet. In fact, the beef fed well and raised outdoors contains linoleic acid, which, in small quantities, can prevent certain cancers.

However, a study conducted over a 10-year period showed that consuming red meat every day, even a small amount, such as that contained in a 120g hamburger, for example, increases the risk of dying from cancer. 22% for a man and 20% for a woman. Another study showed that eating a lot of red meat increases the risk of getting breast, prostate and colon cancer.

Red meat seems particularly dangerous when it comes to colon cancer. A study conducted in the United States among 150,000 people aged 50 to 74 years, showed that long-term consumption of red meat significantly increases the amount of colon cancer. On the other hand, long-term consumption of fish and poultry meat seems to have a protective effect.

6. French Fries/Potato Chips

And yes, it is certain that chips are a cheap and delicious snack, however, the pleasure they provide may not be worth it if you compare them to the effect they have on your body.

Potato chips are composed of artificial flavors, dyes and many preservatives that your body does not need. They are fried at high temperatures to make them crisp, which leads to the formation of a chemical called acrylamide, a known carcinogen that is also found in cigarettes.

It is sometimes difficult to say no to your children who demand to buy the chips. So opt for a smart alternative and buy baked chips or tortilla chips that are far less rich in fat and calories. Or try baked potato chips or dried banana chips. Both are crispy and are much healthier than potato chips.

7. Refined Sugar/Soda

Sodas are known for being refreshing, but also for their health misdeeds … Stuffed with sugar, food chemicals and dyes, these drinks acidify the body and feed the cancer cells …

Energy drinks are not recommended by health authorities. The sugar content is extremely high; the caffeine content gives the illusion of energy and can cause consequences on the nervous system (irritability, nervousness).

Other components of energy drinks can lead to cardiovascular and digestive consequences.

8. “Diet” Foods

Light foods are loaded with aspartame, now known to attack our nervous system and promote the development of brain cancer. Changes made by manufacturers to offset the reduction of sugars and/or fats are not always a healthier option than the original product.

We finally end up with processed products, more chemical, less tasty, and may present risks for our health (sweeteners, additives …).

Would not it be better to consume a product of origin, in reasonable quantities and present essential nutrients to our organism?

9. Refined White Flour

Refined white flours are excessively rich in carbohydrates, which upset the blood sugar balance inside our body and leads to a higher production of insulin a thus feeds cancer cells.

In addition, very low in nutrients, it provides very little nutrients for our body.

Finally, according to studies, the regular consumption of refined carbohydrates favors the development of carcinogenic cells … So prefer the so-called “whole wheat” flours.

10. Instant soups

Instant soups are fast foods that are easy to prepare. If today they become more and more popular, scientists raise the alarm about the presence, in their composition, of substances harmful to health.

In addition, these instant soups contain many food additives, including the famous toxic preservative (tertiary butyl hydroquinone). Because soups are difficult to digest, this preservative will stay longer in the digestive system.

The excessive consumption of instant noodles is at the origin of metabolic syndrome; a study talks about the consumption of more than 2 times a week. Metabolic syndrome causes overweight, high blood pressure, hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia.

11. FROZEN MEALS

For lack of time, consumers are rushing into frozen foods today. It will, however, be necessary to pay attention to certain products.

Nutritionists are constantly drawing attention to the consumption of 5 fruits and vegetables a day.

However, nutritionists attest that frozen natural products remain safe for health because the nutritional qualities remain close to fresh and natural products.

On the other hand, it is recommended to be careful with frozen prepared foods, which are higher in saturated fat, which contain flavor enhancers, added sugars and other food additives (aspartame, glutamate, nitrites, … ) which can be dangerous for your health.
